Lana Dial, RN, Honored for 15 Years

The National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting recently announced an important milestone for one of their members, Lana Kaye Dial, RN.  She is a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) and has maintained certification for 15 years.  Dial is the Surgery Center Supervisor at Scotland County Hospital in Memphis.

A CSFA is required to renew their certification every four years, either by submitting 75 continuing education credits or by taking the CSFA exam.  Certification ensures that surgical assistants have met or exceeded the necessary requirements to practice alongside the surgeon and that they continue to meet ongoing requirements through continuing education and advanced training.

During a surgical operation, the Surgical First Assistant is able to participate in and actively assist the surgeon in completing the operation safely and efficiently by helping to provide exposure, maintain hemostasis, tie or sew, and serve other technical functions.  "We feel very fortunate to have a Certified First Assist in a hospital of our size," said, Celeste Miller-Parish, DO, Chief of Surgery at Scotland County Hospital.  "As a surgeon, I feel confident with Lana's skills in every surgery and procedure.  She is very good at what she does."
