Preparations Underway for Expansion at SCH

Scotland County Hospital (SCH)
August 20, 2010

Scotland County Hospital officials along with the architects and contractors and the Hospital’s Maintenance Department are making arrangements and plans for site work preparations for the forthcoming renovations and expansion project.

Tree and shrub removal along with outdoor light posts and fixtures are being removed as part of the site preparations that are currently taking place.

Dirt work has begun to the east of the hospital in preparation for a new parking lot to replace the north parking lot which will be partially demolished to make room for the construction of the new patient rooms and surgery center.

Patrons of the hospital will begin seeing considerably more dirt moved & parking lots relocated by September 1st.

Additionally, by mid to late September, the general admissions/ER admissions department, which is currently located on the south side of the building

(off Watkins Street), will be temporarily re-located to the hospital’s north entrance, known to many as the original entrance to the hospital (off Sigler Street).

The contract for the steel package has been approved and a contractors meeting was recently conducted to let bids for the remaining projects.

Hospital officials believe that major construction will start the beginning of October.

Way finding signage will be posted throughout the hospital complex, both indoors and outdoors, in order for patrons to feel comfortable navigating the facilities during the construction phase.

Patients (or family members) are encouraged to call ahead if they want directions or instructions for parking or entrance into the hospital (660-465-8511) or Memphis Medical Services (660-465-2828) during the construction project.
